52-Metre Crossover Performance Yacht Concept Marries Explorer Capability With Residential Comfort
Design studio Sturge & Toth has unveiled the interior renderings of its Gladius 52 Crossover Performance Yacht concept, which was first introduced at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show. Developed as part of an ongoing series, the 52-metre design sits just below the 499GT threshold and is engineered for long-range exploration, with a full displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure and a general arrangement that prioritizes maximum comfort and flexibility at sea. Gladius 52 is characterized by a sporty exterior inspired by the principles of automotive design, with dynamic, slender lines, sculpted surfaces and floor-to-ceiling glass. Exposed tender storage and a cut-out open-bay beach club add further visual interest to the profile.
Sturge & Toth’s head of exterior design, Benjamin Julian Toth, explained: The yacht’s bow exudes power and grace, much like an explorer vessel cutting through the waves, while the overall design focuses on sharp contours to ensure optimal efficiency as it glides across the water. For her interior styling, a relaxed barefoot philosophy is achieved by a suite of soft neutral colours, with natural light brightening the interior space. Low-slung, curved furniture is featured prominently within the living areas, accented by natural textures and layered finishes to provide a warm and homely onboard atmosphere. The studio noted that, at this stage of the process, a broad degree of customisation is available for prospective owners.
Her main deck aft is designed to be multifunctional, with the possibility of converting the raised level from an exterior lounge into a touch-and-go helipad or an exposed tender storage area. The design proposal also presents an al fresco sky lounge found on the bridge deck, which enables entry to the sundeck above with a Jacuzzi, bar, dining setup and lounge area. An additional stairway leads up to the Eagle’s nest lounge near the mast, which offers a sunbed and panoramic views 11 metres above sea level. Other features on board include a wet bar, sauna, gym and fold-down balconies.
Rather than relying on overt formality, the interiors prioritise ease, warmth and spatial fluidity, a statement from the studio read. Organic textures, muted tones and carefully balanced lighting combine to create interiors that feel intimate and residential while maintaining the sophistication expected of a world-class superyacht. Accommodation is for up to eight guests, including an owner’s hideout that opens into a forward area with raised ceilings, a skylight and a large sofa.
Gladius was designed as a crossover performance yacht with strong explorer genes, and an interior layout that feels effortless to live in, co-founders Toby Sturge and Ben Julian Toth concluded. Every element was crafted to create an atmosphere that is calm, grounded and emotionally warm, a space where owners and guests feel immediately at ease. On the technical side, the yacht’s hull has been optimised to ensure a smooth and stable journey at high speeds and long cruises of up to 5,500 nautical miles, with a hydrodynamic performance among the top of its class in the under-500 GT category, the studio highlighted. State-of-the-art propulsion systems, advanced navigation technologies, concealed mooring systems and integrated hull stabilisers complete the package.
The studio recently shared a first look at its interior design of the 37.2-metre Orpheus, which was launched from Numarine’s facilities in Kocaeli, Turkey, last year.
