The Former Tranquility Undergoes Comprehensive Transformation as Companion Vessel for Leviathan
The 92.8-metre superyacht Draak, previously known as Tranquility and Equanimity, has officially been redelivered after undergoing a comprehensive rebuild at Oceanco’s state-of-the-art facilities in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands. This significant project saw the vessel emerge transformed, recently spotted on sea trials in May 2026, and is now reportedly cruising off the coast of Scotland, with Greenock declared as its destination.
Originally launched in 2014 by the Dutch shipyard, Draak has been meticulously re-engineered for its new, crucial role as the dedicated companion yacht for Leviathan, the impressive 111-metre Oceanco superyacht delivered last year to American video game developer Gabe Newell. This strategic integration necessitated a profound transformation, equipping Draak to carry a specialized dive tender and provide additional accommodation for an expanded crew and guests, ensuring seamless support for Leviathan’s ambitious voyages. The extensive rebuild encompassed several significant exterior modifications. Notably, the stern’s boarding platform was extended by over a metre to enhance safety and integrate retractable fenders and swim stairs. A major alteration also saw the upper deck aft, which previously housed a helideck, converted into an expansive open tender deck. This new area is now fully equipped with heavy-duty C-davits and a powerful 12.6-tonne jib crane, specifically designed for efficient deployment of various tenders and equipment.
The exterior works were expertly guided by Draak’s original in-house design team, working in close collaboration with the project teams for both Draak and Leviathan. This ensured design consistency and cross-functionality, vital for the two yachts to operate seamlessly as a fleet. The collaborative effort involved Oceanco, co-makers, owner representatives YTMC and Y.CO, alongside the dedicated crews of both vessels. Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture also contributed to the naval architecture, returning to the project with the shipyard. Dan Morgan of YTMC emphasized the importance of this integrated approach, stating, “Strong collaboration between all parties was needed to re-engineer the yacht’s DNA. Integration of large-scale equipment optimized for operational efficiency and versatility will bring added robust capability to enhance the fleet’s program.”
Inside, new lifestyle features have been introduced to align with Draak’s redefined operational purpose. The former beach club and spa area have been converted into a comprehensive dive centre, now including a dedicated decompression chamber, highlighting its new expedition-ready capabilities. Above, the main deck saloon has been reimagined as a spacious crew mess, featuring a specialized “chef’s lab” designed for intimate dining experiences for both crew and guests, reflecting a thoughtful approach to onboard living and functionality. Further, new adaptable cabins have been integrated to provide additional capacity for crew as required, offering flexibility for extended operations. The sophisticated interior works were executed by the acclaimed German interior studio Vedder.
Edwin Schneider, Oceanco’s Life Cycle Support project manager and a member of the yacht’s original build team, remarked on the scale of the undertaking during the yacht’s relaunch. He explained that “The new layout required a complete overhaul of several key systems, including ventilation and electrical infrastructure. On a refit of this scale, everything is interconnected, and every decision had to be carefully evaluated for effects. With the extent of the changes, we effectively had to open up the entire yacht.”
Draak was initially delivered in 2014 as the first yacht built to the stringent PYC standard, boasting original interiors by Winch Design, inspired by Asian aesthetics and featuring luxurious materials such as wenge, gold leaf, bamboo, and marble. Looking forward, Oceanco continues to demonstrate its prowess in yacht construction, with two additional yachts currently under construction, including the 80-metre superyacht Project Y729. This project is noteworthy as it marks the debut of the shipyard’s innovative Simply Custom platform, underscoring Oceanco’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of custom yacht design and engineering in the luxury maritime sector.
