Italian Builder Debuts Sustainable Luxury Model With Malcolm McKeon Design
Italian shipbuilder Benetti has commenced construction on the first B.Neos 40M superyacht, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable luxury. The 40-metre hybrid vessel was first unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2025 and represents a fresh approach to superyacht design, with delivery scheduled for spring 2028. The B.Neos concept was developed in collaboration with British designer Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, whose signature style is evident throughout the vessel. The name itself draws from the Greek word “neos,” meaning new, young, and fresh, reflecting Benetti’s intent to emphasise innovation in superyacht creation. McKeon’s exterior design showcases hallmark features including a slender hull with a vertical bow, slight stern overhang, and a low-profile superstructure with continuous glazing that echoes the proportions of sailing vessels.
At its core, the B.Neos 40M is the first Benetti displacement yacht under 300 GT internal volume to feature hybrid propulsion as standard equipment. The innovative MAN Smart Hybrid System, paired with twin MAN V8-800 engines, delivers silent full-electric operation, reduced fuel consumption, and minimal emissions. This technological foundation aligns with the growing demand among owners for environmentally conscious yachting without compromising performance or comfort. The vessel’s interior design, overseen by Francesca Muzio of FM Architettura, prioritises a personal rather than monumental atmosphere. Warm, tactile colour schemes and a relaxed approach replace the formal perfection often associated with superyachts, creating spaces that feel lived-in and inviting. The design philosophy extends throughout the yacht’s decks, which were conceived to ensure close connection with the sea while balancing social and private spaces.

Accommodation for up to ten guests is distributed across four cabins below deck. The helm station has been relocated to the main deck forward, dedicating the entire upper deck to the owner. The owner’s suite features 270-degree panoramic views and private terrace access, amenities typically found on vessels exceeding 60 metres. The main deck showcases an effortless transition between interior and exterior spaces, with the lounge area flowing into a Sea Atrium, a 2.4-metre-high lounge surrounded by floor-to-ceiling panoramic glass walls. Socialising takes centre stage with an open galley conceived as a gathering space where owners can prepare casual family meals or, with the addition of a sliding glass partition, host more formal dinners. This flexible approach to entertaining reflects the yacht’s target demographic: younger owners who value modern technology, sustainability, and privacy over traditional classical luxury.
Benetti has positioned the B.Neos within its Peace of Mind program, a comprehensive ecosystem designed to protect long-term vessel value and eliminate operational concerns. The program encompasses technical services, operational management supported by a dedicated crew academy, and lifestyle and turnkey services via Yachtique, the interior design division of Azimut|Benetti Group. This integrated approach culminates in Yacht as a Service, or YaaS, where yacht ownership and services are bundled into a single five-year solution.
The B.Neos 40M represents a deliberate shift in superyacht philosophy, moving away from monumental grandeur toward intimate, technologically advanced spaces that prioritise sustainability and personal connection. As the first hull enters construction, the model signals Benetti’s strategic focus on attracting a new generation of yacht owners who demand innovation, environmental responsibility, and authentic luxury experiences aboard their vessels.
